Kenny passed away in 1973 from Lymphoma. Per his wishes, he was cremated and his ashes were spread in the surf off Ave C, Redondo Beach where he grew up and surfed. Reverend Paul Cox held a family Memorial from the deck of LA County Lifeguard Rescue Boat "Baywatch 2" Surviving family present were brothers Chris Gerold (South High '62) of Manhattan Beach, CA and Brian Gerold, (RUHS '67 ), mother, Melissa Gerold, sister-in-law Debby Gerold (RUHS Class of '67). Kenny was a great waterman in the surf and in the pool at RUHS, lettered Varsity in Water Polo and Swimming where he held 2 varsity RUHS school records. Harold Stewart, (RUHS '64) best friend, spread Kenny's ashes.
