d Apr 29, 2007. Edward Ely died Sunday after a brief bout with cancer. He started his career in California public affairs at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power focusing on water usage and conservation issues. In 1989 he moved with his family to Sacramento and established E.B.E & Associates, based in Fair Oaks, where he continued his interest in the state's water issues and expanded the business to include varied communication support for numerous clients. He closely tracked state legislation regarding retirement issues for teachers as the Director of Communications for the California Retired Teachers Association. Born in November of 1952 in Compton, California, Ely graduated from Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach and earned a degree in Marketing Communications from the California State University at Dominguez Hills in 1972. Ely is survived by his wife of 27 years Sharon, his son Eric, a recent graduate of the Sacramento Regional Fire Academy and daughter Nicole, a second-year student a California State University at San Francisco, two sisters, Helen of Sun City, Arizona, Linda of Garden Grove, California, his brother Tom of Templeton, California and a host of nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by a group of close friends for many years, the self-proclaimed 'Stupid Family,' a moniker adopted by the long-time comrades after a calamitous and enormously fun camping adventure in their college years, many of whom visited with Sharon and the family over the weekend.
