Fredrick Dale London January 5, 1935 – September 27, 2017 Fred London passed away at the age of 82 at his home in Rolling Hills Estates, CA, surrounded by his beloved wife Madge and daughters Stephanie and Nicole. Born in Redondo Beach, California, in 1935, Fred grew up in the golden age of Southern California, surfing and playing football at Redondo Union High School. Fred was awarded an athletic scholarship to the University of Southern California where he graduated a proud Trojan in 1959. Fred enjoyed a long career as a passionate and innovative educator who found tremendous joy engaging with his students on campus. Two of his proudest professional accomplishments were partnering with the founding parents of Cornerstone Elementary School to start the first parent participation school in Palos Verdes and re-opening the former Dapplegray Intermediate School as an Elementary School. Fred's appetite for life was undeniable. He played as hard as he worked whether it was sailing El Bandido in the Transpac, surfing Waimea Bay, skiing the Alps and Chamonix, or biking from Oregon to Tijuana. Perhaps his greatest adventure was as a newlywed, relocating to Fontainebleau, France, with Madge for three years to teach at the American NATO school where they traveled across Europe on weekends and summer breaks. It was there Fred developed his love for Edith Piaf, a famous French singer he and Madge saw perform in Paris. Fred's greatest love, however, was his family. His commitment to his wife, daughters and grandchildren was unparralled. Hitting tennis balls, BBQ's and pool time at the Jack Kramer Club were a family hallmark as were tennis tournaments on the weekends. After his grandchildren were born, there was nothing he loved more than taking them to the beach, on bike rides, trips to Mammoth, or sharing with them the two school campuses he built. Fred touched many throughout his life. Whether known as Fred, Freddie, Dad, Coach or Papa, he will be remembered for his love of family and community, creativity, sense of adventure, good and often sarcastic humor, storytelling, and positive spirit evident in his endless energy and enduring smile. Fred is survived by his wife of 56 years Madge London, his daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and Tony Krogius and Nicole and Tryon Liesy, and grandchildren Michelle and Tristan Krogius. Celebration of Life will be held October 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., Dapplegray Baseball Field
