Comments:
Julia Ann went home to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 31, 2017 She was born in Nashville, IL on September 23, 1940 to Elmer & Mary (Newman) Junge. In 1941 the family moved to Redondo Beach and arrived 3 days before Pearl Harbor was bombed. She eventually moved into her home on So. Juanita that belonged to the family for over 70 years. It held many memories rich with tradition, smiles, tears, laughter and sadness. Julia was a stay at home mom who worked as a transcriber for court reporters. She typed well over 200 words per minute and caused several new IBM electric typewriters to fail soon after they were purchased. IBM's suggested resolution was to 'slow down'. Later on she worked for the City of Torrance's Finance Dept. Julia was an animal lover and had many throughout her lifetime. She was also a strong supporter of her sons during their years in soccer, baseball, basketball and hockey. She coached soccer (three 1st place teams), was team mom, worked the snack bar and volunteered many hours to AYSO. After her sons graduated from RUHS, her alma mater, she helped form their Bingo program that provided money for RUHS Athletic programs. Those funds helped purchase Letterman jackets for students who could not afford them. She also advocated for the RUHS Band to help work Bingo to earn money for their programs. During her final days, Julia suffered from dementia and received in home care from Sarah Fackler. Our family will be forever grateful to Sarah for her gift of compassion. Julia is survived by sons, Jeff (Sylvia) Surber of Texas and Jaysen Surber of Redondo Beach; granddaughter, Sara Surber; brother, Bill (Lorraine) Junge of Arizona and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Julia's life will be held on September 23, 2017 from 2-4 PM at the Redondo Beach Elks Lodge on Catalina Ave. Bring quarters for meter parking and dress casual/comfortable. Julia will be buried at sea at a later date, where she had laid her Father to rest years previously.
