Memories

What wonderful memories come to my mind when considering the four years that I spent at RUHS. There was the terrific mentoring from which I benefited; I really had some great teachers both in class and out of class. There were some troubled spots for me, chasing a fellow student to the roof to retrieve my wallet, catching the scoundrel and both of us falling into the skylight above the girls's home economics room. That cost me, both from my parents who had been called to school to review my behavior and the Saturday school that resulted. Another time, while walking through shrubbery on the way to boys gym, I stumbled on two boys smoking. They tried to get me to join, a fight followed, and the vice-principal drove up as we were going at it. We shrugged our shoulders when asked for an explanation — Saturday school again! My best memory was my senior year and advanced algebra. I knew it was going to be a tough class for me. I invited a new student from Texas to have lunch and explain the math. I have been going to lunch with her ever since. My RUHS senior class sweetheart, Melba Hope, after ten children, 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren (and still counting) is still my sweetheart.
