I was a late bloomer. While at RUHS, I was far too immature to appreciate the good teachers I had. My dreams were unrealistically high, and I didn't realize just how hard I had to work if I wanted to succeed. Somehow, I still managed to get into and graduate from Cal (Berkeley). Looking back, I am thankful my teachers saw promise in me and encouraged me — I sure needed it. In the first few years, Mr. Crawford taught me more than he ever realized in mechanical drawing, and Mr. Kincannon, my geometry teacher, made me aware of my math skills. One of my coaches, Mr. Striff, I think, taught me to laugh at myself — and important skill when you are imperfect.
