Memories

RUHS was a classroom with an ocean as backdrop. After school, my best friend and I would ride our bicycles along the Strand and watch the surfers. Summers, we would play in the waves at Second Street. In class, Mr. Dickhart confronted us with important issues, values and curiosity about the world, and Mr. Van Wagoner taught us to write about those issues. I think that these and other teachers, and my enjoyment of the natural environment, set me on a career that took me to the Himalayas, and to the banks of the Holy Ganges in India, to conduct research on Hindu pilgrimage. Making the decision a few years back as to where we wanted to spend the rest of our lives, my husband and I returned to Redondo for its sense of community, healthy lifestyle and family, as well as creative opportunities.
